About me

About me

I’m Louis, a British-Swiss creative born in Birmingham, UK and currently based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. I work closely with people and brands to shape a clear and distinctive visual language and then bring it alive across websites, campaigns and print. What started as a small side project quickly grew into something more long-term: a small freelancing business.

I studied Media Management at the Schule für Gestaltung in Bern, while working in Marketing and Communications at Leica Camera and now work independently as a freelance designer.

I'd love to hear from you, if you are interested in what I do and would like to work with me.

How I got into media

Looking back, I think I've always been fascinated by how people communicate ideas. Whether through a photograph, a newspaper, a website or a visual identity, I've always enjoyed creating things that tell a story.

In 2013 I got my first camcorder. I used made fictional news broadcasts, short films, interviews with local shop owners and even recorded my own radio programmes in my bedroom. None of it was ever published anywhere, but I absolutely loved it. I spent hours upon hours in iMovie.

A few years later I created my own neighbourhood newspaper, Die Gurzelen Nachrichten. Every few months I wrote articles, took photographs, designed the layout in LibreOffice and distributed the paper to local shops and around thirty subscribers, most of whom were family and friends. This was the first thing to ever see the day of light.

In 2017 the Bieler Tagblatt wrote about the newspaper, describing me as a young local reporter covering events in the neighbourhood. It was where I first discovered writing, photography, layout and the joy of creating something from beginning to end.

Around the same time I became curious about websites. In October 2017 I signed up to Wix.com and built my first website for an imaginary pizzeria. From there I kept inventing businesses simply so I could design more websites. A few years later I even started redesigning other people's Wix websites just for myself. Looking back, it was probably a huge waste of time, but it turned out to be the best way to learn the platform and discover all of its hidden features.

After completing my commercial apprenticeship, which gave me a strong foundation in business, marketing and communication, I studied Media Management at the School of Design in Bern. Those three years helped me connect everything I had been experimenting with for years. Video, photography, websites, branding and design suddenly became part of one bigger picture. During my studies I worked in Marketing and Communications at Leica Camera, where I was able to combine my growing interest in design with my passion for photography.

As the years passed, my interests naturally grew and I gradually found myself working with real clients on real projects.

In 2021 I launched my first official client websites and have been fortunate to keep creating websites, visual identities, graphic design and photography for people and businesses I genuinely enjoy working with ever since. I became a Wix Partner in 2023 and a certified Wix Studio Web Designer in 2025.

Today I work as a freelance designer across branding, web design, graphic design and photography. Alongside my freelance work, I'm also part of Brum Radio as a Graphic Designer since February 2025.

Looking back, I feel so fortunate to have had the freedom to live out so many creative interests growing up. Whether it was making films or writing a newspaper, they were all different ways of telling stories and visualising ideas, even if only for myself.

Apprentice in Business Administration

Completed a commercial apprenticeship, gaining experience in sales, purchasing, accounting, logistics, and marketing, in which I then specialised in. Worked with tools and systems such as SAP, PrestaShop, WordPress, Mailchimp, Sendinblue (now Brevo), Meta, and Google Ads & Analytics.

The Story behind my Logo

I was born in Birmingham, UK, shortly after the opening of Selfridges. The building quickly became one of the city's most recognisable landmarks, with its façade covered in more than 15,000 silver discs.

I've always loved its shape, so when I started my photography journey in 2021, my first idea was to use the building as the inspiration for my personal logo. The initial draft was made up of circles in different sizes, loosely following the building's silhouette.

I soon felt the logo was too crowded and wouldn't work well in different sizes and so I stripped it back to just the three dots at its centre.

While its minimal, monochrome appearance might come across as quite corporate, it reflects my own design approach. I like things to be simple, clean and neat. My clients' work should be the focus of my portfolio, not my own logo.

Photos from Porto

In Porto this June, it was the reflections, the signs, and especially the ever-present Super Bock that caught my attention when wondering around the city with my camera.

Big poster for Phil Penman's ‘96 Hours Biel-Bienne’ exhibition

In my role at Leica Camera AG Switzerland, I had the honour of designing this big poster for Phil Penman's ‘96 Hours Biel-Bienne’ exhibition, which has been hanging on Biel/Bienne's public library since this week (not that you could miss it). I also created further signage, flyers, social media assets and adverts around the exhibition.

From Kick-off to Go-Live in just 11 Days

Jean-Cédric Michel had a clear goal: he wanted a new, slick, and interactive website to support the release of Plus pour tous, and to give his previous works a proper home online.
