Branding used to be something mainly associated with large companies and global brands. Companies like Apple and Nike helped define what modern branding looks like today. Today every business, no matter its size, has a visual identity, whether it was created intentionally or not. Even your local corner shop has one in your mind, even if it's nothing more than the colour of its shutters.

At the same time our idea of good branding has changed. It no longer has to be perfect or based on a carefully thought through strategy. Some of the most memorable brands today feel effortless, approachable and full of character.

That also means consistency has become more important than ever. An unfinished or inconsistent brand can create more confusion than having no branding at all. Simply placing a logo on everything is not branding. That's labelling. Something that belongs on warehouse shelves, not to be called your brand. Branding is about making everything feel like it belongs together.

  • Good branding isn't perfect. It's consistent, memorable and gives everything its place.

FAQ

What does branding include?

Every branding project is made to fit what you need, but typically includes a logo mark, colour palette, typography, visual style, and brand templates. All of this is delivered with a clear set of brand guidelines to help you, your team and future designers apply your brand consistently.

Where do you create designs in?

I work with Adobe Creative Cloud, mainly using Illustrator and InDesign. Where needed, I also adapt designs into tools like Canva so you can easily update templates yourself in the future. The actual design work, however, is created within Adobe.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration comes from all sorts of places. Often it's somewhere I've visited, a place I've walked past or a conversation with someone who inspires me. Strangely enough, some of my best ideas have appeared while loading the dishwasher, so there's a good chance that's where your brand is hiding.

Who have you worked with?

I work with individuals, small businesses, associations, cultural institutions and organisations across Switzerland and the UK. My clients come from a wide range of fields, including music, culture, publishing and education. While their work may be very different, they all share the same goal: a clear, thoughtful brand that reflects who they are and what they do in an authentic way.

How I got into branding

The Cadbury Mini Fingers biscuit tin shaped like a bus has remained a strong childhood memory. We had it at home for years. Long after the Fingers had been eaten, the tin stayed and for some reason I've always had a sweet spot (ha!) for it. Looking back, I think it was one of the first times I felt good branding. Ever since then I've found myself noticing logos and visual identities wherever I go.

Over the years my interest grew from logos to branding as a whole. I love seeing when everything belongs together. A logo, colours, typography, photography, signage, vehicles, uniforms and even the smallest details all speaking the same visual language. There is something incredibly satisfying about that kind of unity.

Brands like Wagamama, Eurostar, the BBC, Innocent or Mobility have really inspired me. And some of my favourite brands also sit within tourism and transport. Railway, a destination or a tourism office, I enjoy living in identities that are simple and timeless.

Process

01 - First conversation

First we meet, ideally in person or via video call, and have a little chat. This first conversation is about getting a sense of what you're looking for, and whether what I offer is a good fit.

02 - Defining the brand

Once we’ve decided to move forward, we'll define your brand’s purpose, values, audience and aims. This gives us a clear foundation, not only for visuals, but also for tone and direction.

03 - Moodboards & Visual Exploration

I create 3-4 different moodboards that explore potential directions in style, tone, and aesthetic. We review them together and discuss what resonates. This step helps us align visually before any design begins.

04 - Concept Design

Based on the chosen moodboards, I develop 1-2 initial concepts. We review, discuss, and refine; either by further developing one direction or testing new ones if needed. This is an iterative, open process shaped by your feedback.

05 - Final Concept Presentation

Once we’ve narrowed it down, I present the final concept. We make any small adjustments to ensure everything feels just right before moving into final production.

06 - Assets & Brand Guide

I finalise all logo versions, colour palettes, typography, and visual elements. You receive a clear, accessible brand guide on client.louisplant.ch and as a PDF along with all assets.

07 - Handover & Support

You get access to your personal brand portal with everything in one place, files, guidelines, templates and more. If you need further support, I’m here to help with rollout and implementation.

That could mean designing templates, creating marketing materials, building your website, or adding photography that fits your brand. Many clients continue working with me across these areas to keep everything consistent and aligned.
